A Clinical Study of Retroperitoneal Tumor


Abstract
This article is clinical analysis of 19 cases of Retroperitoneal tumor from the chonnam national university hospital past 5 years and 6 month of duration, from January, 1970 through July, 1975. We have been able to summarize as follows from this study.
1) The retroperitoneal tumor may occur in any-age group, but the study indicates that the majority of cases were under the age 40 with a ratio of 2.8 males to 1 female.
2) The chief complaints in order of frequency were gastro-intestinal symptoms in 78%, systemic manifestations in 31.5%, and genitourinary symptoms in 21%. .
3) The positive physical findings were palpable abdominal mass in 84.21% and abdominal tenderness in 15.7%.
4) The clinical diagnosis is made by analyzing the clinical symptoms, positive physical findings, and X-ray examinations such as L V.P., Retrograde pyelography, aortogram, veno-gram, Upper G-I series, small bowel series and barium enema, and so on.
5) There were 6 cases of benign retroperitoneal tumor. The remainder 13 cases were all malignant tumor, including 5 cases of Neuroblastoma.
6) The treatment of retroperitoneal tumor is radical excision. Radical excision was per-formed in 6 cases of benign tumor and 1 case of malignant tumor.
